Way back in November I stuck an entry in for the West Highland Way race, certain that I would get knocked back. I felt a mixture of excitement and nausea when I got the email confirming my entry for this year. So there was no choice but to get stuck into training. The first 6 months of this year absolutely flew by and in no time at all I was standing outside Milngavie train station at 12.30am on a Saturday morning listening as Ian Beattie read out the race briefing.
At 1am the horn sounded and the 193 starters set off on the long journey towards Fort William, the crowds cheering and ringing cow bells as we ran through Milngavie town centre and onto the trail through the forest.
