Martin Hyman organised another great fun run at Tinto Hill today, and I was honoured to be bestowed the role of “Muddy Patch Judge”. The rain ensured this was an easy task for me: there was mud galore on knees, backs, faces and of course hands, which made post-race sweeties a bit, well, browner then they ought to have been.
There was a great turn out of fun runners – at least 16 of ’em (I may have overlooked one or two people whom I incorrectly underestimated as being far too tiny to be taking on the Tinto Tiptoe!). Carnethies were on great form, especially Archie who blasted in first with (I think) a one minute PB, and Anna Burnett who was hot on his heels in second place. In his post-race interview, Archie described how he trounced the speedy Miss Burnett: “I was behind her on the way up to the top, but on the way down I passed her, and she said ‘Sugar!!'” Well, Anna I’m sure you weren’t alone today in venting your frustration at being overtaken by a nemesis. I expect Tinto Hill was reverberating with Sugar! and Fudge! and who knows what else.
It was really great to see so many other young Carnethies running, both familiar faces and new! It would be lovely to see as many of you as possible at our fortnightly Carnethy Junior runs (1pm on alternate Saturdays from St Margaret’s Loch by Arthur’s Seat). Well done to you all!
