In almost perfect running conditions, cool and only a slight wind, though perhaps a bit soft underfoot, Andrew Douglas, from Inverclyde, took it out hard and it the end did enough to hold off Carnethy’s Andrew Fallas (who recorded the second fastest ever time by a Carnethy runner) to win the 45th Carnethy Hill Race, with both under 50 mins and well clear of 2011 winner, Tom Owens. Charlotte Morgan from the host club, had an outstanding run to record 56:46 and become the third fastest female of all time behind Angela Mudge and Helene Diamantides. English visitors, Helm Hill Runners crossed the border with a strong squad and in a successful raid took away the famous claymore by winning the team prize. Scotland will just have to get revenge on the rugby field ! Carnethy did have the consolation of winning the Women’s prize. Jimmy Jardine carried on his remarkable run of finishing every race and James Rowley completed his 42nd race. Four people (Laurie Anderson, Keith Burns, Bruce Smith and Richard Wall) were awarded one of the special “21st Quiachs” for running their 21st race.
A massive field of 515 completed the race and all received a special 45th anniversary mug and a bottle of Carnethy 5 ale!
A list of all previous winners is here and all previous results can be found here.
