A grand total of 3 made the start which began with a game of “recent period of idleness/convalescence from injury” trump trumps. This was inconclusive, but we set off anyway with the intention of exploring a recent addition to the Edinburgh cycle network –the disused railway line starting from the junction of Lasswade Road and Gilmerton Station Road. This takes a well surfaced route from there under the bypass, through Straiton and Loanhead, over the Bilston Glen viaduct to Roslin. It has the advantages of a very smooth surface and no cars, but the mobile hazards of both dogs and their walkers meant pace had to be moderated. Anyway, shortly after that, 2/3 of us headed off on the quiet roads towards Roseberry and Gladhouse reservoirs whilst Richard decided to avoid hills and embark on a 1 man re-enactment of a short section of the circo-Edinburgh route. KBU to Gladhouse reservoir and back is a round trip of around 37 miles which we completed in 2 hrs 45 or so. Hopefully, the email reminder for the next outing (March 29th) will get through the moderators faster and issue before the ride starts (rather than after it has finished) and encourage the Carnethy peloton to grow. I will then be able to wear my new “fat lad at the back” jersey with purpose!
