Quite a large number of Carnethies had managed to get entries into this season’s Borders Cross Country Series and most of them were out for the first race at Lauder. A superb run by Michael Reid saw him continue his supremacy in this sort of cross-country racing, even though he is now a vet! He beat lots of younger runners in a very large field of 223. He was backed up by good runs from John Hammond (7th) and Iain Gilmore (9th). First Carnethy woman was Fionna Mackinnon (136th and 8th F40) followed by Hilary Spenceley (161th and 3rd F50).
Report by Margaret:
It was great to see a good turn out from Carnethy at the first of the Borders Cross Country series in Lauder on Sunday. Results are available here. Unusually warm and sunny weather for November made for perfect conditions and the final hill was a fairly accessible climb up a muddy track (Michael Wilkinson told me this was a dry year for this slithery part of the route, which could have been a hands and knees crawl). After the race a few of us ( Kirsty Louden, Senga Plain, Hilary Spenceley and me) were comparing notes on our recovery from the Beachyhead Head Marathon last weekend. A good training run for the Borders Cross Country series?
