Carnethies again marshalled at the freeze-fest in Holyrood park. Not that cold really but who is colder than a marshal? Doesn’t matter how much clothing you put on. It just traps the cold for longer. Fewer Carnethies in the races this year – we spotted Charlotte in the Inter District Women’s race, and someone in the earlier Great Winter run, but I didn’t get a photo.
The relay was interesting – 4x1k laps with a lap each alternating between men and women in the mixed teams. The lead swapped all through the race, and we all found it jolly exciting. A feature of the Women’s 6k race was the presence of Sir Mo following them round in a premature lap of honour. Perhaps he got tired, as he finished well down in the men’s race. This had a dramatic finish as Scotland’s (running for Britain) Callum Hawkins was just beaten in the last few metres after gaining a seemingly impregnable lead. Those runners really fly.
Our presence was rewarded by a technical running T and lunch. Carnethy gets a contribution for providing marshals.
