On a shortened course Carnethys did well winning the Mens (Liam, Dessie and James Britton) and Ladies team (Rachel, Michelle and Helen Boyd) prizes; Liam Braby was third, Rachel Normand 2nd lady, Dessie Flanagan won the M40 and Michelle Heatherington the F50. I slithered about in the snow to no great effect.
Conditions were very difficult. Slippery snow quite deep in places, and hard to keep on the barely beaten track. In the most drifted places the passage of runners did little to create a path and the deep footprints threw you all over the place. One runner elected to try and short cut to the top of Foulshiels hill. A mad decision. As we neared the top he was still labouring through the trackless deep stuff low down.
The front runners must have had a very hard time. So the decision to shorten the course was absolutely right. It was still a hard 7.6 miles, though it looked much shorter on the map compared to the full route. The hideously calorific haggis pie after certainly went down well!
