Arthur’s Seat Handicap 15th Sept 2004Organiser: Nick MacDonaldThe final handicap race
of this year attracted a large number of competitors as usual - 25 runners
including three non members turned out at Arthur’s Seat. The route took
us over the ‘5 tops: the two tops of Arthur’s Seat, Dunsapie Hill, Whinnie
Hill and Salisbury Crags, involving some tough climbs and descents, with
accurate route finding bringing definite time savings. The average running
time was 41mins, exactly as the handicaps predicted. Adam ran the fastest
time of 30:38, but it was Stewart Barrie who stormed round beating his predicted
time by more than 3mins, to win the maximum points. Meanwhile non-member
Iain Murray finished first, starting from an estimated handicap – perhaps
he’ll now join the Club. In the series, the points totals closed up
even further with 9 runners being within the top 10 points, but Moira
Stewart
just managed to hold on to a two point lead ahead of Win Rampen, winning
her first handicap series, and justifying her dedication as being the
only person to run in all 6 handicap races this year.
