It was a fine night as I headed from Roslin on the short run
to Boghall. I had inspected the start times and thought that perhaps
my year of living obesely had paid off. I had a good chance.
The only fly in the ointment was Win Rampen.
He had a 13 minute start and at the junior run on Monday he had
been showing an uphill
running ability I had never seen before.
There was a good turn out of 33 runners (it
would have been 34 if Paul Ritchie had not brought two left feet!),
and it was a fine
evening. It seemed a long time till the 30 minutes had passed and
it was my start time.
I headed off with Simon and Dominic and was
soon on that long uphill to the summit of Allermuir. I managed
to leave
my co-starters behind
as I reached the col and the final slog to the summit was grueling
as ever. The run down to that strange metal thing was pleasant and
it was gratifying to pass a few people on the way up Castlelaw.
Win, however was far in the distance and I could
see I had no hope. i didn't know at that time that new-to-hill-
running Oz Oswald was well ahead of Win, but as no membership
money had been passed
to Moira it was Win that won the plaudits and can now look forward
to a bottle of win(e) at the end of the season.
Every one seemed to enjoy themselves and we
had a great turnout for the beer and food at The Steading where
we
helped Nick Shierloh
celebrate his heinz birthday (video
here).
Well done to Willie Mykura on managing single handedly to sort
out the results. |
