Lammerlaw Handicap 14th July 2004
|
A bright sunny and windy evening provided the backdrop
to the 4th run of the handicap series. Despite some objectors, Moira
set off with a three
minute handicap after her slow time at Ravensheugh where she had jogged
back along the beach with Phillipa. I put this down to ‘tactical
running’ so she headed for the views early, leaving the rest of
the field trailing in her wake. 19 runners completed the race which provides
an alternating mix of tough climbs, easily run-able track, and superb
fast
descents, set to the magnificent scenery of the Lammermuir hills and
beyond. Andy ran the fastest time, but Moria still romped home with a
7 minute
lead winning her first ever handicap race, while the rest of the field
had a tight run, finishing very close to their predicted running times.
The evening rounded off with a lovely meal served by the attentive staff
in the Tweeddale Arms. The handicap series is now closely tied with 3
people sharing the top position with 90 points, and another three people
are within
10 points of the leaders. Willie Mykura |
