Peebles Handicap 21st May 03
Organiser:  Ewan Gowrie

Gordon is happy with his run Kate and Ben Nigel

A smaller turnout of competitors than usual assembled at Peebles for the second race of the series, perhaps because of the showery weather, resting following the Peaks Race last weekend, or resting for the Bens Race next weekend; or just because of the footie on telly.  The route was a great-but-hard run to the summit of Birkscairn and back, with a fantastic fast descent on surprisingly firm ground.  Despite a little grumbling, the handicaps were pretty good, delivering a finish time spread of less than 10 mins, excluding the first and last outliers, and keeping the possy of recorders busy on the finish line.  Gordon had a storming run and finished second, Brad ran the fastest time, but once again Alan beat his handicap by a mile and won the race.  Good food and drink was rapidly served up in the Kingsmuir Inn after the race, before Willie and Cali climbed back onto the tandem for the long ride home.
