Note from storm the dug, race organiser.
While waiting for John (as usual) at the LAMM this weekend, I woz having a good sniff and a natter with Arkle and Roan while staying over at Janice's. Well apparently, they were telling me, that some people are still confused and making up excuses about not doing the Mull race, something to do with it being too long and difficult transport. Nigel Rose said he'll be washing his hair that weekend and unfortunately won't be able to make it.
What a joke, call your self’s hill runners? OK, John would probably take about three days (he's dangerous with a map and compass), but I could run the thing in about half an hour. Apart from one or two wee steep sections and only one boggy part, the whole course is a runnable delight of short grass and mind-blowing hebridean views (if there's no mist). In addition, you'd be running from sea to sea starting from Torosay Castle grounds and finishing at the marquee on the shores of Loch Na Keal.
And while I (with a little help from John) have been organising the route, Sery has been getting in some unbelievable prizes such as tons of local whisky, pottery, jewellery, food, and much much more, even some Cal Mac tickets which is an unheard of first. There’s also top nosh and a top phisio at the end …boy, and you say it’s a dog’s life!
If it woz up to me then I'd run back to the ferry but for you guys they'll be a number of minibuses so there's no need to bring the car, if you don't want to. Theses buses will take you around until Sunday morning, so they'll get you to the ferry the morning after the ceilidh, which will be a hoot (although I bet they don't let dogs in). And on the subject of discrimination, I see that there's a junior 3 mile up hill race before the main race but what about a dogs race? Worried that we'd show you up ...hey!?
Anyway, enough of my ranting, I've got a tail to chase. So see you there or why don't you take up track running?
