Fourteen runners toed the start line for the tenth Scald Law
Junior Hill Race. Despite the sunshine, conditions were tricky
underfoot
with the ground frozen solid in the shade of the hill. It was
third time lucky for Robert Inglis (Lothian) on winning this years’ race,
after two fourth places in 2004 and 2006. In doing so he had to
overcome a tough opponent in last year's winner Jamie Stevenson
(Ochils), who had the consolation of finishing first Under 16.
Jamie's brother Ben finished first Under 14 in sixth place overall.
Rachel McIlwraith made it a Lothian double, with a strong run to
finish 4min ahead of clubmate Lana Turnbull and Isla Murgatroyd
(Unnattached).
Seven runners took up the challenge of the shorter Col Run. Luke
Foss (Law & District) crossed the line first in an impressively
quick time of 16min, only one minute slower than the Col Run course
record held by the Scald Law winner Robert Inglis. Perhaps we
may see Luke follow in Robert's footsteps as a future winner of
the
Scald Law Race, watch this space…
Next home was Duncan Gorman (Westerlands) who took nearly 4min
from his time of last year. At this rate of improvement, he’ll
no doubt be beating his dad Manny in the near future!. Bethany
Nelson was first girl home, followed by her two Lothian clubmates,
then
Sara and Caroline Gregg from the USA, who experienced their first
taste of Scottish Hill Running. Haste ye back!.
