It
was a lovely day as the 5 of us headed down to "The Beeftub" for
the start of the race. Keith Burns was dropped off at the top and
the rest of us drove the extra 10 miles by road to get to the spot
about 200 yards below!
We waited patiently for the hordes to arrive. Money
was organised, the numbers sorted out and the course discussed
while
we studied the map.
Soon we had our
first competitor, then the second, But things were going slow. A
van was seen driving up the road, but alas the postman
didn't seem that interested.
By the time 12
noon arrived we had six names, including Kate Jenkins, who had just
cycled for 3 hours to get to the race. We headed for the start, leaving
Cali behind to mop up any late comers.
It was 12:25 by
the time we all got to the start and set the 6 off. As I turned round
after the off I saw a lone runner running form the
cars. It was out 7th runner. He got to the start and just kept running.
Brian was well
ahead by half way up the first hill and descended well but found
the last hill rather slippy. The field was well spread out
at the end but Martha Aitken was catching Katel on the downhill.
Kate seemed to spend a fair amount of the descent on her bum! Perhaps
she should have brought her walshes.
After the finish I dealt out the prizes from my specially prepared "Beeftub".
"Devil's Rock" wine for the winners. Bovril , Oxo cubes and Beef flavour
Noodles and Beef Hulahoops for the runners up.
