The Course

Run 1 :
7 miles 22200ft up Ben Venue
The run will require mountain navigation, the course will be marked to the open hillside from there on competitors will have to navigate to the 2 checkpoints.
Checkpoints at Cairn 469061
Summit trig point 477061
The first 400m is on road then the runners bear left to cross the Achray Water and join the Forestry Commission footpath up Ben Venue. The first 2 miles are on hard track. Once the path reaches the end of the forestry at 474052 the path becomes very boggy and erroded. The route will climb Ben Venue first by a direct line, passing over heather and on very steep terrain. Once on the summit descend on the path to the cairn at 469061 and then head SE along the very boggy path towards the forestry plantation. Competitors must not cut through the forestry to access the path. Once back on the well formed path the route follows path to the start. Runners continue past the start turning right over a broad walk and follow the path, bearing right at the junction to the transition area.

Mountain bike :
16 miles

This route is mainly on forestry fire roads. From the transition area competitors turn right and head up the road towards Dukes Pass. About 1 mile up the road cyclist leave the road turning left onto a pedestrian track and follow this along the shore of Loch Achray. Where the track meets the fire road turn left and cycle along the forest drive. After about 2 miles take a left along a single track. Follow this track to the shore of Loch Venacher and then turn right up a short steep path. This comes out at a forest track follow this and take the first left, then left again and then right away from the shores of Loch Drunkie. The cycle once again follows the forest drive and leaves it to do a circuit of Druim Buidhe on a rougher track. Cyclists then return to the shores of Loch Drunkie and leave the well formed tracks just past the picnic area (535045) turning left down a very rough eroded forest track. The route then returns to the A821, crossing the road at 514054 and heading right along the forestry tracks to the back of the Loch Achray Hotel. Turn left at the hotel back onto the main road and into transition.
Run 2 :
2 Miles
This follows the path up Ben Venue. Joins the access road, then heads left over the bridge and left again towards Loch Achray Hotel. Turn left on the main road back to transition.

Logistics for the day will be published nearer the time and e-mailed to every competitor. Race is registered with the Scottish Triathlon Association and will be run under Scottish Triathlon and Fell Running Association Rules.
