Alternative Carnethy 5 |
Reports
page 2012 |
New to the club diary this year, the
committee have invented a week-long
series of fun events for everybody to have a
go at. The "Alternative
Carnethy 5" consists of completing 5 running
events in 5 days. The race
series will be open to Carnethy club members
and friends. The winners (lots
of them) will be those who complete all five
events in the shortest
accumulated time. Where possible the routes will
be kept as straightforward
as possible so that participants can complete
the course at any time and
submit their own time to the organisers should
they not be available for the
official start time.
There will be the usual race categories of
gender and age but you're free to
invent your own. Maybe team up with somebody
and do each run as a
three-legged race or anything else goes. We'll
provide the prizes/beer if
you come up with some good ideas.
There won't be any race numbers or official
race timing (unless of course you are entered
in the two official races). Runners are just
expected to turn up and run, record their own
time and send that time into the organisers
who will keep a running tally of accumulated
times. We just want to keep it dead simple
for this the first year. Most of you will
probably time yourself in the various races
anyway. All that's different is
that you report each time into us after each
event (in HH:MM:SS format).
This is lo-key event with the main aim of having
some fun and testing
ourselves over the course of 5 days. The Culter
Fell race is by far the
toughest event so leave something in the tank
for that one.
You are free to enter as many events as you
like but only those completing
all 5 will go into the overall standings. If
you can't make the published
start times shown then do the run at
any time to suit yourself. Make
sure you adhere to the courses shown on the
various maps and time yourself
as accurately as possible and report the time
to the club secretary Bob Johnson -
All events must be completed between
7am on Wednesday 12th and midnight on Sunday
the 16th of September.
The sequence

The Sunday finale will take place at Portobello beach. It is
a simple out and back run to stretch the legs after a testing run the day
before, heading out from Portobello along the beach, up onto the prom,
and back for a sprint finish. The tide will (should) be low so pick your
line (and footwear!) appropriately. Points for sandcastles will (probably)
be awarded. Points for swimming will definitely be awarded! |
