The Wed training run headed for Dreghorn to meet up with Margaret and the social social group to look at the mute remains of WW1 in the form of a dugout and trenches, filled with 100 years worth of leaf litter. Margaret’s mini tour gave us the historical background and explained some of the topography of the area outside the current army barracks and razor wire. Willie’s promise of 3.5 miles out suggested 3.5 miles back. Not so easy compadres. Passing through the grounds of Dreghorn Castle, apparently blown up by the army in the 60’s (thanks for that), we headed down to Colinton Dell and returned from there, totting up 9.4 miles by my watch. Dreams of lovely pints were dashed by Euan, who informed us the bar was closed, which caused a lot of anguish.
And turned out not to be true!
A message of apology had to be sent to Shane who’d departed to the pub expecting everyone else to arrive there.
