Avoiding strenuous Flinging or 3Peaking, four Carnethys opted for a sunny 23-mile dawdle in the Lakes. A field of around 200 runners and walkers were bleated on our way from Braithwaite by a field of new-born lambs. The day was sun-visor perfect. The route took us over Catbells and down into Borrowdale; followed by a steep, marshy and technical section up past Dock Tarn – which wasn’t much of a dawdle – but then came a lovely runnable section along the eastern flanks of Derwentwater past Walla Crag, down into Keswick and back to the start. Whilst I was mis-navigating (must learn not to blindly follow gaggles of runners), Dorothy and Billy were enjoying a leisurely race, stopping to sit down for a cup of tea and some scenic photos. A much-recommended route and event where Carnethy ‘slowies’ can feel like they are doing quite well!
