On Wednesday night a merry band of Carnethys gathered at the Burnett residence to celebrate Burns Night. The food was excellent with massive vats of neeps, tatties and haggis (both meaty and veggie) and heaps of homemade puddings. The traditional Burns supper speeches (given by Al, Gordon, Mark, Iain and Nikki [I know I am forgetting someone in here and I apologize]) were all present and accounted for. Unfortunately as a Canadian attending his first Burns supper I can’t recall exactly what they called but they were all very well done. After the official proceedings were done various people presented music: flute by Margaret and glockenspiel by Mike, songs: by Moira, Gio, Moira and Willie, and poetry: by Alistair, Hilary, Willie and Me. And finally the group song: adapted by Nick and accompanied on guitar by Mike [apologies for any missed or incorrect names]. All of it organized by Lisa and Euan [at least he looked like he was helping]. I’ll re-iterate what Lisa said in her email about the night: “The puddings were plentiful, thanks to the Burnetts for letting us take over their home for the night and MASSIVE thankyou to ALL those who stuck their necks out and performed. We are a very lucky (and unbelieveably talented!) bunch.”
