Alex has posted this on the Carnethy FaceBook page:
“Hi, I’m Alex Menarry, an “overseas” member, so we probably haven’t met. Are you going to the World Masters Mountain Running Championships in Betws-y-Coed in September this year? I have found that there is age discrimination at work. The WMRA Council have decreed that anyone over age 80 cannot run. This means that if Bill and I try to enter we will be rejected – we have both run in past Championships and won medals. I emailed the Council, politely pointing out the error of their ways and asking them to delete the appropriate regulation (no 23) or provide their reasons for it. They have ignored me – not even an acknowledgement. I have asked AgeUK for their legal opinion on this particular age discrimination and await their reply. I seek my fellow-Carnethies opinions on the ban and ideas for how the protest can be carried forward.”
Feedback ideally through FaceBook but non FBers with something to say can send us an email which we can forward. Or go directly to the WMRA.
