Coupled to his recent ASBO (Ed: really?), Bob Johnson, “volunteered” to (a) run the Ben Rinnes hill race (b) collect as much litter as possible from the course and (c) write up the results for the world-class website aka Carnethy-dot-com. (Never again will Bob launch himself and his vehicle into a village breaking the 30mph speed limit).
Carnethy indeed sent some great runners up to the Dufftown Highland Games last Saturday and dominated the race with two wins (Andy Fallas 1st overall and Stewart Whitlie 1st V50) and half of the first six being Carnethies. Helen Bonsor took an excellent second to the very-much-on-form Jill Stephen (aided and abetted by James Waldie who is coaching her). The tough “five tops” hill race saw an out-and-back course from Dufftown to Ben Rinnes and back with two minor hills on the way there and the way back (making 5 in total). Carnethy runners are shown in the attached files.
Mike Lynch fell heavily on the descent of Ben Rinnes – chasing grandad Bob Johnson who had also “measured his length on the gravel footpath” (Ed: I’ll let that go but only just) on the same descent. Bob collected a few gel wrappers, three tissues (one very much used), three coke cans BUT no medal. Bob said that it was a privaledge to run with a Carnethy shirt on again…
