A popular race with Carnethies and 32 ran this year. The 4 foot deep snow of 2 days ago melted away to leave remarkable morasses of mud and paths turned to rivers. Cold ones. The normally fast field descents turned into the grassy equivalent of ice. There were many… no other way of saying it… skidmarks. The actual river wade scarcely wetter than the surroundings. The sun came out! Briefly. It was good! Though slow.
I didn’t come last, which was nice. I felt very invigorated by the cold shower that awaited. You have to be either very fast or extremely slow to get hot water. My feet have thawed out now, and my fingers are no longer as white as a turbot’s tummy. The soup was great and the haggis and neeps pies were, well, not bad, though the previous haggis, neeps and tatties are sorely missed. Possibly the finest post race food there ever was.
Graham Nash bagged the V40 prize and Carnethy ladies the team prize, though they doubted it and shared it with Fife AC, who it turns out are the actual winners. Finally a mention of the loony loud ladies of the Minchmoor road and their spirited encouragement to all the runners! Pity I’d dunked my camera into a puddle by then, so no photos after the turn down the Minchmoor Road.
