For the last few years we have organised the Ultra Series of runs over the winter to give a set of long runs for those new the world of ‘Ultras’ and for those preparing for their 2019 race calendar. In 2018, 5 runs totalled 165 miles ranging from icy snow-fests finished well after dark, to sublime beaches and sunshine in secret Scotland’s Lothian beaches, stunning trails of the Tweed Valley and high spots in remote spots around Edinburgh. Generally we had great weather with bacon rolls, cafes, cakes and the odd beer and pie consumed along the way. See: http://carnethy.com/running/ultra-series-2018/
This year we are proposing the same, with old favourites and a few new ones to wet your shoes.
Proposed Dates:
Date | Location / Route | Lead |
Sun 23 Dec 2018 | Eskapade: Musselburgh to Carlops. |
Willie Gibson |
Sun 20 Jan 2019 | Edinburgh Circo or Sea to Summit or other route | Rachel Normand |
Sun 24 Feb 2019 | Borders Canter – new The Steading Pub to Peebles |

Sat 30 Mar 2019 | Lothian Adventure – new | Dorothy Elliot |
Sun 28 Apr 2019 | Alt John Muir Way. | Keith Burns |
See the Ultra page for more details, reports, and updates.
If you have ideas for another route, do part of it, drive, bring food along the way, please let me know. Oh, and for those who don’t know, an Ultra is further than and marathons distance of 42 km or 26 miles. If you extend the Eskapade a bit you clear this distance.
