The overall winner of the 2014 Alternative Carnethy 5 (Alt_C5) is Neil Burnett (following on from the Harry Gilmore in 2012 and Graham Nash in 2013). Neil was one of 20 Carnethies who completed all 5 events in the week. Another 18 Carnethies did at least one event but didn’t get the full set.
Given that Neil was also in the vet 40 team for the Comrie Relays then this was really 6 events in 7 days. Others who could claim that were Mary Lye, Willie Gibson and Kirsti Loudon so a tough week for sure.
On “pure time” Konrad Rawlik was the fastest in a total time of 3:14:56 (where this overall time includes the Doonhiller times inflated by a factor of 6). Konrad was fastest in 4 out of the 5 events. In the “age-adjusted” times for the Alt_C5 trophy Konrad lost out on account of his “slender” age.
The top 5 were as folows:-
Neil Burnett 3:14:56 – 00:20:00 = 2:54:56
Michael Andrew 3:23:36 – 00:26:00 = 2:57:36
Konrad Rawlik 3:07:49 – 00:10:00 = 2:57:49
Jasmin Paris 3:22:19 – 00:18:00 = 3:04:19
Simon Titmuss 3:25:01 – 00:17:00 = 3:08:01
Where the time “adjustments” for men were calculated from age-squared-over-one-hundred (complete minutes). Women’s times were twice that of the men.
Many thanks to all those who had a go at this event – thanks also for some excellent ideas and enthusiasm from the committee.
Hope to see another record entry next year…
