Sunny but frosty conditions met us in Broughton for the Greenmantle Dash this year. A good variety of terrain avoids any possibility of boredom in this terrific race. I’d hoped the cold temperatures would mean the boggy field beyond the stream crossing was less muddy – but you still had to be careful you didn’t lose a shoe in the ‘squelch’. It’s then a slog up an increasingly steep hill before the brief descent back to the road, and a quick sprint to the finish. Being less wet than last year meant I spent less time on my backside than last year – or maybe I’m just getting better at descending (or more cautious?)
It seems every Carnethy other than me and Keith Burns won prizes (me because I’m slow, Keith because he was the only one in his category). I, however, applied the Dad tax, and obtained 5 bottle of beer from my offspring – excellent race! Results to follow.
