After avoiding the “wee bit too fast for me” 7 o’clock runs over the last few weeks and it being the 5th anniversary of the Speed of Light Edinburgh festival event, it was time for a Speed of Michael run taking in some of the paths on Salisbury Crags used 5 years ago. 7 of us set out to Craigmillar and Duddingston before heading through the woods, nettles and brambles to Dunsapie. Ruth left after that leaving Tracey and me to try to hold the easy pace. We had great views from Whinnie after the earlier weather had cleared and a scree descent that was new to a few on the run. Gordon and I reminisced as we went up and down and up Salisbury Crags and explained the significance of the SOL tree and hub 3 to the rest of the group. A faster return as Gordon was keen to get to KB in time for a shower. Total distance 11.29 km or 7.0 miles over 1 hour 37 minutes,

Craigmillar Castle – The easy 4 miler
With the slow going fast and the fast not going and the extra slow dragging the majority away it was nice to just go and do the usual – 4 miles-ish in an hour.
So through Inch Park to Craigmillar and attacking it from the rear we found an abandoned car before seeing the Castle.
The run back involved the obligatory play park stop.
4.4 miles in 62 minutes!

Eeek, I see the slow and moderately slow groups have both put up a report already and we’ve got nothing so here goes…
“The “not the fast but also not too slow” group of 4, formed effectively when most of the others simply ran off following Michael, ambitiously decided that we’d make for Allermuir via Blackford, Hermitage, Braid Burn Valley park and the route up to the (now closed) Dreghorm car park past the barracks. A punishing pace on the flat outward sections was made up for on the long slog up Allermuir, made ‘interesting’ by the wet grass on the very steep initial face which almost led to us slipping back down. From the top of Allermuir we headed diagonally down to Hillend and from there we followed the usual route back across the bypass to Morton Hall and then back to KB via Tower Hall Farm. A total distance of 11.4 miles in around 1hr 50 minutes and while I was glad to just make it back to my car, Rachel Newstead then headed off on foot to run home!”
