Race 2 of the Scottish Cyclocross Series took us to Strathclyde Park on Sunday. The course was very different from the week before , being longer (11 miles +), much muddier and faster. Being on a mountain bike I was at more of a disadvantage than the week before, but this was mitigated slightly by edging up the starting grid as I had points from the week before (known as ‘gridding’).
There was a (slightly bizarre) delay from the V50 race just before us as they had to remove a deer that had strayed into the path of a competitor’s bike, thereby ensuring that both of their races were over. Good hunting!
It was a tough day out, but I’m beginning to love Cyclocross. I finished 60th, which was a slight improvement from Callendar Park. The race was won by Glasgow United CC’s Stephen Jackson.
The focus next shifts to Irvine Beach on 26th October.
