I really need to engage brain a bit more. The end of the month excursion is intended to be “fast”. I elected to cycle the 20 miles from my front door to Kings Buildings to get to the start. Two of the known attendees are proven strong cyclists. And my present state of fitness might be described as “ensuring I don’t peak too soon in the season”. How was I intending to keep up with everyone else on my clunky winter bike? Duh. In hindsight, how could I not see I would go backwards on every hill.
Anyway, peloton of 5- Richard Bush, Jamie Thin (who introduced the day’s maillot jejune George to us, Derek Bearhop and myself gathered at the start. Sun, cool (was 2 degrees when I left the house) and a steady westerly wind. We headed south to Edgehead, Ford and Pathead before swinging into sun-kissed East Lothian and the aforementioned steady westerly wind on our backs. The route is here
edit , assuming everyone went back the way we discussed after I peeled off, although this omits the cafe stop at the welcoming “love coffee” on Gifford Main St.
Next outing is the more civilised of the 2 monthly excursions on May 10th. Lookout for emails nearer the time.
