The first race of the year in the Borders Cross Country series took place in the grounds of Paxton House. We were definitely running in Scotland but the route to the start line involved a short trip south of the Border. This is the race I remember Hilary telling me last year, where it’s important to knot your shoe laces well as runners have a habit of getting sucked into the mud and this year again there was a shoeless runner ;o) Hot soup, baked potatoes and cake with lashings of tea was our reward in the tea room after the race. A lovely way to spend a January Sunday afternoon.

Lots of Carnethies turned out and a superb run by in form Andy Fallas saw him take the win by over half a minute. Stewart Whitlie still hasn’t slowed down as was next Carnethy in 12th just in front of Iain Gilmore and Graham Nash.
