This is a new race, with 6, 12 and 24 hour options based on 5 mile laps. We were incredibly lucky with the weather, winter sunshine by day then a chilly but starry night. Cut-offs were key for my attempt. First was 11am, when the Real Food Cafe stopped serving breakfast. Luckily registration was easy so I made this one with time to spare. Next was the important one of 8pm when the cafe stopped serving food so I timed my laps carefully here to make it in for some soup & large slab of cake. Last orders at the Tyndrum Inn was midnight but unfortunately I didn’t make that deadline as a) I’m on dry January and b) I’d already bedded down in the camper van for a snooze. Next cutoff was the 11am breakfast one again. I’d managed to haul myself out at 5am for a few more laps but heroically gave up my chance to keep running right up to finish time so that I could make it to the cafe for a sausage & tattie scone roll.
Some folk actually took the race seriously – Ken Fordyce was 3rd male in the 6 hour race, many runners in the 12 hour race went further than I managed in 24 (but I bet they missed out on some cafe stops) and winning mileages in the 24 race were all over 100. A great race and very eco friendly which was nice to see. We got handmade wooden medals & lovely recycling t-shirt.
