The Mountains are Calling, Jonny Muir’s book on the sport of hill running in Scotland, is published this week. The book charts the evolution of hill running over the last half-century, heralding its characters and the culture that has grown around them. Ultimately, it captures the appeal of running in Scotland’s hills and mountains – and why we feel compelled to take part in a sport he describes as ‘beautiful madness’.
Numerous club members, from Jasmin Paris to Angela Mudge, and Stewart Whitlie to Charlie Ramsay, are featured, as our some of the Carnethy races. The front cover models are Anthony Hemmings and Ross Christie, in an image taken by Eoin Lennon on the Grey Corries, while Matthew Curry, Harry Gilmore, Iain Gilmore, Mark Hartree and Allan Gebbie also provided photography.
The book is launched at Waterstones (Princes Street) at 6.30pm on Thursday. Everyone is very welcome. If you can’t make it, the book is available now from all good bookshops and online, including Amazon.
