A few Carnethies made the massive journey to the Braids XC last weekend. Around 9 in total, which is a big improvement on previous years. I’ll be back, certainly, as it’s a nearby race and a whole load of fun. Rachel and Will Normand ran the 5k, which is a single loop round the Braids – by that I mean starting at the driving range, round the edge of the golf course, up to the summit on the ash path, down the “7 hills ascent”, round beside the club house and back along the ride to finish back at the driving range. Both ran well, and it looks like Rachel’s ankle is on the mend! Eoin Lennon, Andy Fallas, Adam Gamble, Iain Gilmore, Mark Hooper and I all toed the line for the 10k version of the race, which is just twice round the 5k route. Liam Braby was also there, but running for Heriot Watt. I should point out that it’s not quite 5k or 10k, but what it lacks in distance it makes up for in ascent over the Braids itself.
Eoin continues to shine with an outstanding run to win the 10k route. Andy Fallas wasn’t second, but was second Carnethy, Iain third, I was fourth Carnethy (though technically fifth seeing as Liam would be well ahead of me), then Adam and then Mark. The results aren’t out yet, so the only known position is that of Eoin. I have no idea how he does it. I think I won “oldest Carnethy” which is good, and looking at the field of university students, I’d probably be in the top ten oldest overall. Boom! Great results! Thanks to Stewart for being out taking photos!
