The Steading at Hillend, Saturday 10 December, 7:45 in the morning: twelve runners plus one dog begin their run to West Linton. Freezing temperatures, snow softly falling. Organiser Alan Renville had warned everyone to dress for the cold, but two of us ran in shorts and the dog found even that too much! Made me feel like a wuss. We had a magical run, the landscape quickly becoming beautifully white and we all enjoyed it tremendously. It was not easy with the narrow slippery paths (I saw both Alan and John falling at least once), and near Carlops my wobbly knees gave out so I had to drop down to the main road to take a bus back. As to what happened next … I hope someone else will tell us about the remainder of the run and the next leg from West Linton to Peebles, that must have been brilliant too!
I had a good camera with me but wanted to keep my gloves on so took only six pictures: two at the Steading, two at the crossing of Boghall Burn and two in the snowy landscape just above Nine Mile Burn.
