This year the 20 odd runners (and they were odd) who took part in all or part of the Annual, Infamous, International Club Pub Run, ran accompanied by the sound of music provided by Patricia’s, fiesty, festive, ok mostly maudlin shuffle mix on her mobile phone. Matt’s moaning about the choice of music and why was there no Wham (so Last Christmas) made me comment that it was nice to run to the sound of music, cue chorus of “the hills are alive”. Somehow this led to a challenge to write up the run to the tune of a song from The Sound of Music, oh and slag off Mike Lynch too. Obviously.
Oddly, when I’d said goodbye to everyone and run home a scene from the Sound of Music featuring the song “Goodbye” was showing on TV.
Aye well, so here’s my post run write up based on the Sound of Music’s “Favourite Things”. With apologies to Oscar and Hammerstein… And other people who post run will also be dead by morning…
These Are Some Things From My Favourite Run
Pub runs at Christmas could give you the scunners
Bright flashing Santa hats with weird drunken runners
Brown pampered HBTs just dare not come
These are some things from my favourite run
Dreaming of Penguins with pink wigs and flapping
Teaming great pubs where the punters are clapping
Wild ones who know not which way they have come
These are some things from my favourite run
Girls in weird dresses with wild lights and flashes(!)
Jokers who stray into rivers (heard splashes)
Silver white winters that freeze up your buns
These are some things from my favourite run
When the shots bite, when Mike Lynch sings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember these favourite things
And then I don’t feel so bad
Pub runs at Christmas it just makes you wunner
People in Christmas lights with weird drunken runners
Running in circles three sheets to the wind
Where did this madness just ever begin
With guys in weird dresses(?) all wide eyed and sassy
Running in costumes which they think are classy
Slavering idiots but just having fun
These are some things from my favourite run
When the shots bite, when Mike Lynch sings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember these favourite things
And then I don’t feel so bad
My thanks to all who took part and those who helped make it happen and to the Northfield House Hotel for catering for us so well after the run.
Anyone looking for a more factual write up is in the wrong club and / or on the wrong website.
