In a small (but the highest so far) field, positions aren’t that relevant. Davy Duncan was my only rival and I beat him to take the V60 prize. Last year at the nadir of my running career I came last. This year I was pleased to be within 7 minutes of winner Brian Marshall’s time. The race ascends Venchen hill, returns via the start, plunges into the river (garnering a lot of grit into the shoes) and ascends Staerough Hill with a scenic loop over the summit ridge, then back to the start/finish. A modest 4.2 miles.
The junior race was won by a child so tiny that it’s remarkable. I think he beat both me and a near 6 foot youth to boot.
The weather started out as ‘could be worse’ to end as just lovely. The drive back was in glorious sunshine showing off the beautiful Borders landscape. But the highlight of the day is the show itself. Inter alia a LOT of tractors this year, some nice old cars including a Model T Ford, and a classic caravan.
