We started in warm sunshine but soon got cooled down by a passing shower. The chicane at the bridge and steps spread the field out, amplifying the time differences, and the long long ascent too as overtaking was impractical, at least in my end of the field. After the main ascent the section over the tops had the wind behind us, making good running. Occasional superb views between the low cloud banks then a long fast descent back to a spectacular feast, fortunately restricted to 3 items each – my self control being non existent. Two prizegivings; one for SAL members (I paid them £2 for the race so I don’t know why I wasn’t included in that), and then SHR and British Champs. Carnethy did well, winning both Ladies and Mens team prizes as well as individual prizes. Results

Congratulations to all who took part in Dollar with one of the toughest fields of the year, and one of the most complicated results, being the 3rd British Champs race, 2nd SHR champs race, and Scottish Athletics (SAL) champs race. Carnethy scooped the lion’s share of the prizes in all 3 of these, so many, in fact, that I have to resort to bullet points:
- Andy Fallas: 6th overall, and SAL bronze medalist. This result leaves Andy tied with Rob Hope at the top of the British championship standings, with just one race to go.
- Jasmin Paris: 3rd Overall, and SAL gold medalist!
- Stewart Whitlie was 1st V50 in the race, SAL 1st V50, British V50. After only 3 of the 4 races, Stewart has already clinched the British V50 title!
- James Waldie was 1st SAL U23, and 3rd U23 overall.
- Mark Johnston was 3rd V40 in the SAL championships.
- In the SAL championships, Carnethy had 1st Men’s team (Andy Fallas, James Waldie, Stewart Whitlie, Iain Whiteside), and 1st Lady’s team (Jasmin Paris, Joanne Anderson, Helen Wise).
- In the SHR championships, Carnethy had the 1st Senior, V40, and V50 men’s teams, and similarly for the ladies.
- In the British championships, Carnethy senior men (Andy Fallas, Andrew Normand, James Waldie, Stewart Whitlie, Iain Whiteside) took their second victory to lead the championships. Carnethy were also first V40 team (Stewart, Mark Johnston, Craig Mattocks, Adrian Davis), and finally, 1st V50 (Stewart, Aidy, Harry).
Phew, I think that’s it! Well done all. Fantastic to see Carnethy not only dominating in Scotland, but also the rest of the UK.
