Andy Fallas won the mens race and Jasmin Paris was first Lady in this years 2 Breweries Hill Race. Carnethy won both team prizes and lots of beer.
The Breweries was my first hill race , I think that was in 1987, since then it has always held a place in my heart. Whether it is that fact that it is an A to B run, or goes through beautiful countyside, or perhaps that there is free beer at thee end.
As I started off with Helen, Joel and Allen I suggested just jogging along the road and working our way into the race. This meant that a mile in as we headed off the tarmac onto the hill we were in last place. As the first climb approached we could see the masses slowing and heading up Birkscairn we started overtaking people. I was climbing well then descending badly and so lots of us oscilated our way accross the hills and at the water station at Glenrath I still was carrying water, so ran past a group of thirsty runners and on up to Whitelaw hill. I got past Stewart Barrie and Mark Hartree on the climb, but they soon passed me on the downhill to Stobo from Dead Wife’s Grave.
At Stobo, Calibob’s water station, I swapped my water bottle for a full one and chased Mark and Stewart up the Glen. Mark was nowhere to be seen, but I overtook Stewart at the foot of Trahenna and continued to climb past weary runners to the summit. A cuddle from a marshaling Jane Robertson revitalised me for the last couple of miles to the beer/finish. It was not my fastest run, but also not my slowest, but it was great run every step.
The beer at the end evapourated so Allen and I headed off to the hall for some more. Meeting up with our Clubmates over hot soup and beer we heard about the successes of the day.
A great run By Andy Fallas to win, with Stewart Whitlie in 6th (1st V50) and Paul Faulkner in 7th (2nd V40) making up the winning team. Jasmin Paris was 1st Lady (9th oveall) with Charlotte Morgan 2nd (11th overall) and Joanne Anderson was 10th lady making up the winning Ladies team. 24 Carnethies took part.
Many thanks to Pete Baxter and his crew of helpers for a great race.
