The weather Sunday morning wasn’t looking great. Light rain but not cold. Trying to stay dry in front of Graigdon while waiting for the group to turn up I thought “It could be worse”. 10 of us (quick count to make sure it was actually 10) headed off just after 9 am. By the time we reached the car park at Hill End, the rain had stopped and we were all taking off our jackets. We headed up to the gate below Caerketton. Instead of heading up we turned left and followed the fenceline towards Boghall Farm. From there we followed the handicap route (dodging a few herds of cows) up towards Windy Door Knick. It was lovely and still and warm in the valley. Once up on top, we headed along the ridge back towards the ski centre. Part of the way down the Doonhiller descent we took the path to the left and traversed back towards Swanston and then back to our start point. Cobbs didn’t have space for ten but we said we were ok sitting outside. The host didn’t really believe us at first but after realizing we were serious they unlocked the door and out we went to our private patio. Great chat and nice food and drink. I also learned we can book ahead which I will do for the next run! In the end it was about 6 miles and 1500 feet in about 1.75 hours.
If you fancy something similar come out on Sunday, May 28. Craigdon/Cobbs, 9:00 am. Route TBD.
