Distance: 5.70km | Ascent: 365m | Duration: 16 days | Feature: A seat | Runners: 45
Arthur’s Seat course marks the end of the 2020 virtual handicap series. This was the shortest and one of the tougher courses in terms ascent and tourist traffic.
Only 7 beat their predicted time, performances suggest there may have been some holding back, completing all 6 courses may have been the main agenda. 26 runners did complete all 6 courses, which gets virtual kudos.
Thanks to all those that have participated and made the series competitive and record breaking in terms of runner numbers. 146 recorded a time on a least one of the courses.
Handicap Championship – Final overall standings
Morag McIntyre is the 2020 champion. Not without a final challenge from Kirsty McBirnie, who ran the course 3 times and set a PB. Morag had the points advantage going into the final event. Both scored well on final run, if Morag had not had a solid performance improving on best 3, Kirsty could have taken victory.
Had runners total accumulated points over 6 events counted, Morag would have still won, followed by Luke Blackburn and Matthew Wardner.
There are no gender or age factors included in handicaps, just names and numbers. That said, this year 5 ladies have finished in the top 5, which was unpredicted. In the past 3 year’s only 3 ladies have finished in the top 10 overall standings.
James Burnett beat the odds, running only 3 of the 6 courses, scoring high in all 3 to finish 4th.
