This Northumberland classic 20 miler starts at Wooler and takes you over Cheviot & Hedgehope summits before some nice runnable terrain back for free chips.
Disappointingly bog free this year, I barely even got my feet wet! It was a lovely surprise to bump into Keith Burns on the Cheviot ascent and have a wee chat to take my mind off the uphill for a bit. He raced it 30 years ago but was just out for a yomp in the hills today.
The long standing course record was broken by Jarlath McKenna in a zippy 2:38. The leading women were pretty speedy too with Shirley Murray first in 3:26 and Carnthey’s Jill Mykura running strong to second in 3:37.
A superb day out in a beautiful part of the world.
