Last weekend we dug out our passports and travelled down to the Lake District for this picturesque fell race. It’s part of the Kendal Winter Series run by Helm Hill, so there were lots of junior races as well. It starts from the pretty village of Elterwater, and goes straight up the overlooking hillside, before levelling out a bit, and then returning the same way. The descent is great – mostly very runnable, with the occasional bit of shoe-losing mud just to keep your attention. The junior races are quite serious (no muddy patch judges here!) and there are some excellent young runners. Euan did the under 17 race and managed to beat a few of the others, I had a good race and finished in the middle of the field. Thoroughly recommended race if you’re in the area.
