Basically the format for the 24 hour race is to run around a 4–mile course on forest trails in Glenmore forest park near Aviemore as many times as you can between 12 noon on the Saturday until 12 noon on the Sunday. The 12 hour race does the same, but finishes at 12 midnight on the Saturday. In the last hour of the race competitors can move to a shorter 150metre loop to clock up some extra distance right up to the finish hooter, which after 23+ hours of running ends up a bit like Wacky Races (you kind of had to be there to understand what I mean). Whilst the weather was seemingly great everywhere else Glenmore was subject to heavy rain, thunder and hail storms making the going rather heavy at times with an increasingly water-logged course. Still given the conditions there were impressive distances run by many competitors (and some impressive sleeping). The enormous effort put in by the organisers, marshals, timekeepers, supporters and runners over a very long period help make this a super event, and one I thoroughly enjoyed.
