A small band of Carnethys did the ROC Mountain Marathon on 29th/30thSept. Apologies if I missed you.
I’d entered the parent and child (14-17yrs) linear ‘C’ course with my daughter Holly who quite fancied the idea after her DofE expedition. I suppose Jasmin and her mum are also parent and child but Jasmin is maybe slightly over the age criteria. Konrad was also there and had invented his own unofficial ‘enormous rucksack, toddler and dog’ category. Helen and Heather were going for the ‘B’ course.
The weather on Sat was fine and sunny and our course had some interesting route choices. We didn’t get lost and made mid-camp quite early as the wind started to pick up. It was very windy overnight and we woke to find it claggy and still windy. Unlike everyone else on B and C who were on some meandering boring path we set off and were taking a direct route between some crags to CP1 when I noticed one pair following. At the top of the crags we realised it was Helen and Heather. So we named this the Carnethy Line and thought Willie would approve. There were plenty of route choice decisions to be made again, especially with the weather. We had a strong finish and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Holly’s already wondering when the next MM she can do is and for those interested Shane Ohly, the organiser did allude to a Scottish Mountain Marathon to replace the LAMM at the start of June.
It was a really good weekend with challenging courses and weather.
Why watch TV when you can spend hours replaying the GPS tracking to see where everyone went!
