Back in the shire at the weekend, checking that everything is in place for the Grand Depart in a couple of weeks time. I arranged to catch up with my friend Andy (from the C2C run ) and trot out from Skipton to the race where he & the team were marshalling. So with 25 ish miles in the legs I didn’t expect to be too sharp. The first slope is brutally steep and it was pretty hard going till it levelled off a bit, where I was then able to settle into a shuffle and enjoy the rest of the race until the final steep decent slope where it can resemble something reminiscent of a boulder alley as bodies slither and tumble downwards occasionally in an upright position. The gala was in full swing with the weather requiring mandatory ice creams before I got dropped off on the way back down the dale at Kettlewell for the evenings social appointment with my caving mates. Great weather and a right good day out.
