Distance: 7.7km | Ascent: 630m | Duration: 26 days | Feature: heather | Runners: 35
Two big climbs made this route one of the toughest of the series, even 4-legged Amber found it tough going. Barra on the other hand was up for a sprint finish at the end of the Wednesday race. Many agreed with Amber but there were a lot of fans of the course.
“Brutal. Legs turned to jelly by the end” says Steve
“A route for ‘steep hill people’ – so not me.” says Ken
“A blustery day, all around the blooming heather, lovely course, thank you!” says Hilary
“Another great race evening, definitely helped by the steak pie at the pub after.” says Clare.
Thanks to Ken for arranging the Wednesday race and food at the Steading. Race day was a very pleasant Pentlands evening with a westerly wind. It was a close race at the front. Gordon Eadie was the eventual winner. Mark and Alan finished joint second on time. Gordon does have to settle for 4th in the virtual time.
Handicap – Top 3 places:
Congratulations to Michelle the handicap winner. Michelle’s advice for success: “forget what you learnt on the recces, just use completely different, bad trods”. The direct descent off Scald Law maybe one such trod, which did seem to save some time but perhaps not your legs.
