A cracking evening for the North Berwick Law race on Wednesday night! The rain in morning gave way to a warm, calm evening, blessed with glorious sunshine. A benefit of North Berwick is that it’s just a short train journey away, and I do love taking the train to races, so it was a perfect way to spend an evening. I spotted a few Carnethy vests on the start line, along with hordes of locals and HBTs, but only really said hello to the Gilmores before the klaxon.
I started fairly slowly as I’d decided to sit quite far back at the start, and that meant I was held back a little with the congestion through the streets, but not that much to be fair. The race is to the summit, 1.5 miles away, and back again. Between the harbour and the jawbone is a mix of tarmac (of varying gradient), and offroad (of varying gradient and terrain). Such is the short, varied nature of the course, you never actually get comfortable – it changes every 3 mins – so you’re struggling to adapt throughout. It’s good though! The summit quickly appears, you take an elastic band to prove you made it, and then sprint back as fast as you can. The marshals are awesome, as are the masses of crowds at the harbour, and the whole race is fantastically organised. I scooted off for an early train back, so I missed the beer and the chips, and also missed the presentation. I don’t know the positions of all the Carnethies, but I do know young James Waldie and Andrew Gilmore got 2nd and 3rd spots behind Don Naylor of HBT. Well done to both, and to everyone else!
A search party has been sent out for the results – I’ve no idea where they get posted.
Bob Marshall has taken some photos, here, including some awful ones of me.

Update:
Hans Blix has reported back: The results have been found! We fielded 11 runners, and Carnethy won the team prize. Well done, all!
