It was down to Dumfries and Galloway on Saturday for the 3rd of the British Champs races and the 4th in the Scottish Champs series. It’s a 15km route with 1,200m of ascent and has a bit of everything thrown into the mix, steep ascents on all fours, pathless bog, river crossings and a fast grassy descent to finish off.
A total of 14 Carnethies made the journey south (or from France in Paul’s case) and I’m glad to report that there was no flooding of the showers or fire engines called out this time, the culprits from the Trotternish race were all in attendance but have clearly learned the error of their ways.
The race itself shot off in a mad frenzy of flailing legs amid the long grass as everyone made a dash to get to the bridge over the river crossing before the steep climb up the first hill. I watched all of this from the rear of the pack, where I managed to stay for the rest of the race! The after race spread in the church hall was fantastic and let’s face it is the reason we go to these races, or is that just me……
Some great results from Carnethy runners in this high quality British field with special mention going to Eóin who had a superb race to finish 2nd behind winner and now British Champion Finlay Wild. Ali Masson was 5th, Andy Fallas 10th and 1st V40 and Stewart Whitlie was 1st V60.
Eve Pannone from Eden Runners took the win in the women’s race.
