Creag Dhubh is the Newtonmore games race. Being a British, Scottish and Carnethy champs race there was a big turnout with 300 runners on a day hot enough to require the dampening of owls. It was cloudier and cooler when the race got under way with a distinct possibility of a downpour. The obstacle course so vividly described on the Scottish Hill Racing site (http://www.scottishhillracing.co.uk/RaceDetails.aspx?RaceID=RA-0089) was in fact much more benign, and the ascent was very much less than the enthusiastic 1200m given to it by the games commentator. I think he meant feet. And to tell the truth it actually only goes to the subsidiary top of An Torr. We (the slower) were just starting the main ascent as record breaking winner (in some 26 mins) Finlay Wild thundered by at our 19 minutes. Results to follow on that link.
