There were six Carnethys (plus a few honorary members) in action at Stirling University on Saturday the 14th for Round 1 of the East District XC.
After a brief hiccough at Waverley – being on the right train, being told to get off said train, only for it to leave seemingly empty – we picked up Graham Nash who had Malteser cakes but no shorts and arrived at Stirling station just as the rain began.
With Storm Brian looming on the horizon, we jogged out to the university, as the rain intensified and the course got muddier. Helen ran well as the solo Carnethy female, followed by an ‘are they/aren’t they?’ Vet team of Jim, Graham and Bruce, along with myself and Andy in the senior men’s race. The rain held off, but it was very muddy and very heavy underfoot with a few short, sharp climbs – good fun all round!
I left Jim, Graham and Nick Williamson in the Students Union discussing the watery lager of choice for kids these days…their return to Edinburgh has yet to be confirmed! Round 2 is on 25/11 in Alloa.
