Distance: 6.75km | Ascent: 500m | Duration: 15 days | Race: 49 | Total runners: 63
Great work by Kirsty creating a new course in Holyrood to test who’s worthy of a wooden coaster. This course had fast descents combined with very steep climbs, Crow hill yikes!
Runners liked it mostly:
Steve: “big gusts and gradients but nice way round the all the park highlights”
Richard: “Lovely run….for out of towners….it’s actually a pleasure and a bit of a treat to run in town …”
Stephen: “Without doubt the toughest hour I have spent so far this year”
Clare: “A great route though, and some new paths discovered.”
The final race evening weather turned out to be one of the best of the duration. With Carnethy legend Bill Gauld watching on runners needed to show we haven’t slowed down too much or become soft. Racing really does help, Alex Kinninmonth proved this point taking a whopping 5 minutes off his virtual attempt. The usual Whinny nav problems were on clear display at finish, with some runners missing the final steps coming down path further up to no advantage.
It was the first trial of the new wooden coaster (non-bib) system. Hopefully no wooden coasters went home. Big thanks to Clare, Alison and Michael for helping at the end. Any feedback welcome. Also, thanks to Ken for his continued communication and John for arranging Bonnie & Wild. Good selection of foods from east PIZZAS and other outlets. Everyone appeared to have mastered the ordering process in the end, happy with beer and food.
Wee shout out to John Morris and partner on birth of their daughter this week. John was given a very special pass so he could race Wednesday evening. All the best to the family.

Handicap – Top 3 places:
Well done Catherine the overall and race winner. Coming in under the handicap radar to claim the maximum 50 points. Last month’s winner Alison has shown winning can be curse for the next month. Steve was the best of the virtual runners, getting second overall, helped by some favourable winds and 10km race training this month.

Championship Leader: Lizzie Knox. Early championship lead means peaked too soon?
Ladies – Fastest course times
Solo and very hot effort by Sophie-Elise was rewarded with the fastest lady’s time. Nicola said she’d struggle on this course, tired legs from her win at Cateran Trail 55 miler on the weekend, that prediction was wrong. Sub-36 min looked unlikely on paper. Club captain Ali and Sam crushed it! Kudos to Eóin, his was a solo run in slippy conditions.
